Hi was just wondering why the light switch on is so late I thought next sat wood be the best time to do it the 7th is a strange time as the month is already a 1/4 over ?

Gala Reply: Hi Hannah, it's always the 1st Saturday in December and this year that just happens to be the 7th.

I'm with Joe in agreeing that the photo coverage wasn't as good as usual - no Town Challenge, Crazy Hair Do or Runners on the Square pics anywhere on the site this year, but to be fair, Gala have provided an explanation and I guess the Gala does have to "make a call" - do they spend money chasing on-line viewers or do they cut back the events "real" people go to? The other comment I would add is that the Gala might be better looking after their "main site", rather than trying to cover twitter and facebook as well? The bulk of comments on the facebook site seem to be "in comments" to Gala Members rather than aimed at us members of the public. Are you maybe spreading yourselves too thin?

You asked for feeback for your meeting and I was trying to provide some. Not sure why you commented back the way you did. I would still like you to take these points to the meeting and get everyones view point. Uploading photos and the availability of the web cam has become an important feature of the gala. Not only for local people wanting to see themselves and what went on that day but for those that live away now and like to keep linked with the gala. This year both have been below standard and they should have been given more focus. Just because last years resource was not available does not mean you should not have been able to plan for someone else to take on this very important role prior to the gala. It seemed you reacted rather than pre planned. Resource and manpower will change year on year. With the limited resource you had things like hiring a local amature photographer or student could have been organised to with a timetable of events to ensure all event are covered. You did great work ensuring a mobile disco and radio station was available for the full gala week. I think uploading photos and availability of the web cam should be given the same focus and can be in the future.

Gala Reply: "Not sure why you commented back the way you did" - Joe you raised an issue and that was the explanation for the issue you raised. The Gala is run on a voluntary basis - none of the people involved get paid for giving up their time - the radio station is staffed by volunteers as is the website.
- yes, we could hire a photographer and yes, we could hire people to look after the website for 7 days, but this would have a very serious impact on the Gala's budget - it would also be very unfair on other members. We will be discussing this matter at the next meeting and you're more than welcome to come along.
