Portaferry Gala has attempted to encourage interest and willingness to support float entries from Portaferry and other areas via a public meeting on 28th March, 2 posts on social media as well as a writing to all prospective sponsors. Thanks must go to the two family/friendship groups and the community group that have registered their intention to enter floats and two other groups which are considering participating. Currently two bars have confirmed they are not entering and the others have not yet registered their intentions.
Lack of community interest leaves the Gala Committee in the difficult position to decide if a float parade is a realistic option this year. Time is now of the essence as we need to progress with associated arrangements for security, traffic management etc as well as inviting the marching bands etc.
This is a last call for the community to support our efforts to stage this key Gala event which attracts thousands of spectators. Unless there is an influx of interest within days Portaferry Gala Float Parade 2019 is in jeopardy.
Contact: email@example.com for more information or to register an interest.
Calling all Athletes. Online registration for the Portaferry Gala 10 Mile Race is now open. Click here for further details.
We are sad to say that Anthony, the voice of Gala for many throughout the 2000’s, has passed away.
A larger than life figure, who threw himself into so many Gala events, he was well known to all visitors in Portaferry, during our Festival.
Anthony also hosted “Love on the Lough” on our festival radio station ferry fm.
A very Merry Christmas to all our readers, wherever you are in the world. We hope you have a lovely holiday and get some time off to spend with the ones you love.
Thanks for all your support over the last 12 months and here’s to 2019 and Gala number 52. If you can come along and celebrate with us, fantastic, if you are away, fear not, this Gala Website will keep you up to date with everything going on.
Thank you to everyone who came along to the Square for the Christmas Lights switch on. The choirs from St Mary’s and Portaferry Integrated were a delight to hear and put everyone in fine festive form. Merry Christmas from all at Portaferry Gala and a special thanks to the Deputy Mayor Cllr Eddie Thompson who counted down to 6pm.
Thanks to everyone who came along to our Galaween BooFest. Thanks to those who volunteered their time to assist the Gala Committee and to all the children (and parents) who dressed up. Special thanks to Exploris for allowing us to use the Aquarium for our Twilight Trail and to Ards and North Down Borough Council for their support.
Thanks to everyone who attended Portaferry Gala’s AGM and special thanks to, Phillippa, the out-going Chair and Paula, vice-chair and Paul, for their valuable contribution to Gala over the past number of years.
If you were unable to attend the AGM, but would like to re-register as a Gala member, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org by 1st November.
Please note all previous members, not in attendance at the AGM, need to re-register.
Changes to the traditional Gala programme are anticipated and only registered members will be entitled to attend the meetings at which the changes will be discussed and agreed.
Meanwhile everyone interested in helping with our Halloween event is invited to a meeting on Thursday 25th October at 8.30pm in the Market House.
